VSVN Polytechnic College, a Govt. aided Autonomous Institution noted for its discipline and academic excellence, was founded in 1958 and managed by Mahamai Tharappus of Virudhunagar business community. The department was established during the academic year 1995 - 96 under WORLD BANK ASSISTED TECHNICIAN EDUCATION PROJECT, and has been accredited for 3 years by NBA, AICTE, New Delhi with effect from 21 – 06 - 2010

1. To impart specialized skills in development of Plastics Products, plastics processing, plastics materials and their recyclability to meet the global standards with social and ethical responsibility.
2. Able to apply necessary managerial and soft skills to become an effective plastic professional.

1. Basic knowledge: An ability to apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering to solve the engineering problems.
2. Discipline Knowledge: An ability to apply Discipline knowledge to solve core and / or applied Engineering Problems.
3. Experiments and Practice: An ability to plan and perform experiments and practices and to use the result to solve engineering problems.
4. Engineering Tools: Apply appropriate technology and tools with the understanding of limitations.
5. The engineer and society: Demonstrate knowledge to access societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to engineering practice.
6. Environment and sustainability: Understand the impact of the engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge and need for sustainable development.
7. Ethics: Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of the engineering practice.
8. Individual and team work: Function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse/multidisciplinary teams.

Program Specific Outcomes:
1. Skill to exhibit and relate the plastic technology principles to solve social and industrial problems with innovative ideas.
2. An ability to acquire skills and knowledge on emerging technology such as computer integrated plastics mould design and manufacturing, nano technology and solar engineering.
